I have been toiling away in Internet security for 10 years now, and I thought I was making a difference. Wrong. A survey by security company McAfee and the National Cyber Security Alliance found some disturbing numbers.
Fully 94% of those polled said they had anti-virus software, but only half had updated it in the last month! As for a firewall, 81% had one, but only 64% had enabled it.
Spyware removers? You bet; 70% had one, but only 55% enabled it.
Overall, 78% of home PCs in the U.S. are not protected, meaning they do not have up to date anti-virus and anti-spyware programs, and a firewall. But 93% thought they were adequately protected!
On today’s Internet, this simply will not do. You must have at least the three programs mentioned above, and update them regularly. Anti-virus programs should be updated EVERY DAY while the rest (including Windows) should be updated weekly.
If you are unsure about all this, PLEASE go to my web site http://mypcsecuritysite.com/ and read about my new home security guide. It will give you and tell you every single thing you need to know about computer security.
