Last week Apple fixed 17 flaws in its Mac OS X operating system, some of which were critical. Now a serious flaw has turned up in its QuickTime media player V7.1.6. Apple has published two patches to fix the problem, which affects both Windows and Mac machines.
As seems usual these days, one of the bugs could allow an intruder to take control of your computer. First you are enticed or tricked into visiting a web page containing malicious Java code. This leads to a takeover of your computer, or what the experts call arbitrary code execution.
The other flaw allows an attacker to peek into your web browser’s memory, and perhaps find sensitive or confidential information there.
Go to the Apple update site here: http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/securityupdatequicktime716forwindows.html and click on the little down arrow beside the link 1.1MB, and update your computer.
You will have to restart your machine, so save or close any other programs you have running.
